Christmas, although a season of joy, can sometimes cause people stress and madness. Entertainment Media for Children aims to assist with some of the negative feelings that appear during the holidays. Since we are an entertainment organization, we have planned to utilize electronic media for this project. We are to host a movie event in cooperation with the neighborhood families. Using flyers, we will spread the word to families in our surrounding areas to plan a holiday-themed film to help families with their children. Even during the holidays, work seems to never stop with adults, and Entertainment Media For Children wants to lighten the load by providing some simple and efficient ways of holiday entertainment for their children. As the primary coordinator for my neighborhood, it is my job to plan the event, design a flyer, distribute the flyer, and provide the entertainment. Creating healthy, holiday treats for the children and watching a festive film proves to be a fun project in theory. We will be open to any suggestions brought to attention by the participating families in order to provide the best experience for all involved. We aim to provide a service to the community to maintain the holiday spirit that the Christmas season is known for. With a little cooperation from the families, we believe the event can be run successfully.
The holidays are supposed to be a time of happiness and carelessness. It is a time for families and friends to come together, and celebrate. Is there any room for stress, sadness, or depression? In reality, the holidays are a period of time where many people can become overwhelmed by a number of things associated with the season. The obligatory feelings of having to buy a gift for everyone one knows, or construct a feast for one’s entire family can drive anyone to madness. Financials associated with the season can put anyone is into serious debt, and can bring about long-term problems for a short holiday. Families can spend hundreds of dollars if shopping is done inefficiently. This issue alone can be the biggest stressor imaginable. Another stressor during the holiday season are the feelings that can appear if time is spent away from family or friends for an extended period. Since Thanksgiving, or Christmas, are a time to reunite, many are not able to. This can lead to serious problems emotionally. If one is far away from family or friends at school, or a business trip and witnesses other people spending time with family, it can make a person feel even more lonely than usual. This can have dire effects on someone if not treated. Finally, an issue that most people face during the holiday period is other peoples stress. A person can be perfectly fine but may experience other people’s meltdowns in public. Increases in anger, impatience, and selfish desire, especially when it comes to shopping, are commonplace during the holidays. Burglary, confrontation, and many other unnecessary problems can arise with surrounding residents.
There are numerous problems that arise during the holidays. People get so caught up with spending and giving that they may not find time to a find solutions to their ills. It was mentioned earlier that an increase in spending can be a stressor during holidays. Fortunately, there is a solution. Early shopping throughout the entire year can alleviate the blow given by the purchases of gifts. Buying gifts when they are on sale, or planning much before the event, can take a lot of the burden off of an individual. Other common traditions such as Secret Santa or White Elephant can solve this issue. Being away from home can take a toll on someone emotionally, so some solutions that family members can use to help each other out are maybe calling relatives a bit more often during the season or more frequent visits. Picking up the phone or stopping by unexpectedly can show a relative that may be going through some hard times that they are not alone and have family that will be there for them as much as possible. This can require planning but can help a bunch. Lastly, dealing with others that have the holiday bug can be a bazaar experience but there is a solution. Being a bit more forgiving and generous to a fellow employee or any individual can really help their sanity during a rough time. Showing compassion when others are chewing each other’s heads off will make a situation a lot more enduring. Also, just lending an ear to someone overly stressed can make their day, and make the entire season tolerable. Although there are stresses that can occur during the holidays, many steps can be taken to make it jolly again. I was about nine years old when I first encountered the Eds and their outlandish ideas. Something about the humor and exaggerated sound effects made it one of my favorite shows of all time. Although crude in some respects, I would not enjoy a life without them. “Ed, Edd, n Eddy” is a Canadian-American, animated comedy introduced by Danny Antonucci, and produced by Canada-based a.k.a Cartoon Inc. It premiered via Cartoon Network on January 4, 1999. The premise of the show consists of over-the-top schemes concocted by three adolescent friends to obtain jawbreakers, who also possess the same name. The boys compose devious scams on the fellow residents of the cul-de-sac, on which most of the setting takes place, to acquire the funds to purchase their beloved jawbreakers. Their scams have ranged from selling turkey basters as water guns, to conducting boat rides via tire tubes. Unfortunately, their plans on most occasions, fail miserably, and the boys are forced to do without. The primary fun factor of the show is driven by the intense persistence of the trio to acquire candy and the chaos created by it. The characters of the show vary greatly. The primary trio encompasses Ed, the dimwit of the group whose ignorance and clumsiness assists in the failure of the group’s endeavors; Edd, also known as“Double-D,” the brain on the group, possesses the most attention to detail, and is a neat freak. Finally, Eddy, the self-appointed leader of the group, is the primary deviser and drive of the show’s comedic effect. Together, the trio’s diversity creates a strong bond that makes the show a spectacle. The supporting cast consists of bullies, a “pretty girl,” siblings, stalkers, a farmer-boy, odd-balls, and all the shenanigans that accompany such a diverse cast. In one episode, the boys’ plans may be foiled by one’s younger, annoying sister, while another demonstrates the boy’s desire to obtain the attention of the cul-de-sac’s attractive girl. In essence, the cast create a quirky and weird universe that many youth can find hilarious. This show was created for children seven years and older, but parents must take into account some of its negative attributes. The show’s dialogue between the cast consists of constant name-calling such as “dork” and “stupid”. The series also possesses deceptive behavior such as the boys lying and stealing to take advantage of their neighbors. Finally, there really is not any measurable adult supervision, or discipline. The children run around the neighborhood, on their own. Although the show has some unhealthy characteristics, there is a lot of positivity as well. The show positively promotes strong friendships that can outweigh any obstacle, or misunderstandings. Whenever one of the boys hurts another, they are able to reconcile their differences and reunite. Another strength of the show is the immense work ethic. The boys demonstrate how desire, persistence and drive will eventually pay off. The creativity, and out-of-the-box innovation developed by the cast, can be a benefit to any age group. In conclusion, “Ed, Edd, n Eddy” will always be a classic in my eyes. The boy’s boisterous attitudes never aged in my opinion. The originality of the television show made it stand out amongst others. Although it possessed some negative behavior, I feel it can be outshined by the hilarity and genuine quality. Fortunately, at my age, I was able to differentiate right from wrong. Parents may want to provide some guidance to their younger children about verbal insults, and respecting one’s neighbor “Ed, Edd, n Eddy’officially ended in November 2009, but can still be viewed as reruns on channels such as Boomerang. |
