The holidays are upon us, this is the time of year where you have to buy last minute presents for everyone, cook tons of food while being the only person to clean the dishes, and also the wonderful time spent with unwanted in-laws almost every second of the day. This is even the time where thousands of students across the nation have to cram for what seems like a countless number of finals, just so that they have a chance of doing it all again the next semester. I'm pretty sure almost everyone has had this happen to them sometime in their life. It's the time of giving and receiving, but What makes the holidays so stressful?

For me, Thanksgiving and the time before Christmas are a very stressful time of year. As a fulltime Engineering student with a hectic schedule, I'm stressed out when the holiday season approaches. I basically have to look forward to the conclusion of a semester, and take final after final that involves math, physics, and sometimes even more math. Don't get me wrong, I do love eating the awesome holiday food and receiving Christmas gifts, but the piles of homework and the constant studying for the next test really kills the fun. I always seem to get little pings of terror in the back of my mind when I'm having the most fun. I'll have constant thoughts about what I need to do or when to study. It's a lot of pressure at the end of the school year, and it just happens to fall at a time of year I really like. Due to all the worrying, I think this is the most stressful time of year for me.

The stress involved with the holidays can seem very daunting at times. There are many families across the community that deal with this stress every day. This is the time of year where schools let out for Thanksgiving and Christmas break, allowing the little ones come home. Spending time with family and children during this time is wonderful, but it can take a toll when there are so many things to do. Parents have to deal with cooking food, buying presents, and taking care of the children. All of these can be very stressful tasks throughout the year, but during the holidays it is a lot more stressful. As a group, Entertainment Media For Children has a couple tips for families that are stressed out during the holidays.

Parents can alleviate stress by planning a family fun day where they can go to an event and just relax. The local community offers many events to choose from during the holidays. Christmas is coming up and children love to think about Santa and wonder if they will receive gifts from him. At the local La Palmera Mall in Corpus Christi, TX, Santa Clause will be greeting the local children around the community between November 11th-December 25th. This would be a perfect time for parents to stop by and relax. Spending time with the family and enjoying refreshments at the event will definitely relive stress.

Christmas lights and decorations  are always a wonderful sight to see during the holidays. Parents can also eliminate stress by planning a day where the whole family decorates the house and lawn with Christmas decorations. This will make a tedious task seem very fun because you're spending time with family, and also accomplishing a task at the same time. There are so many activities to choose from to do with the family, that can eliminate stress involved with the holidays.
